“Haley Meets George” was written on commission for the West Liberty High School Comet Jazz Band, Ashley Smith, director. The title is a play on their mascot and the fact the tune is based on the chord changes to George Gershwin’s “I Got Rhythm”. The piece alternates feel between a spacey second line and upbeat swing. This is a great piece to introduce your students to improvising over a 32-bar jazz form.
