“A Flame Twice As Bright” is a powerful piece built on the dissonances contained within the harmonic minor sound. Written originally for my graduate trombone recital, “A Flame Twice As Bright” begins with a rubato melody evocative of Mesopotamian royalty, before transitioning into the rest of the work, which moves at a quick pace and is sure to excite both performer and audience.

Trombone 1 has a written high B; Trombone 2 only reaches up to G; Trombone 3 has a written high D; Bass Trombone descends to pedal F often.
